Commdex Supports Deployment of New Public Safety Broadband Network for Los Angeles County
Norcross, GA, January 14th, 2016 – Commdex has completed its efforts in support of the construction of a new Public Safety Broadband System for Los Angeles County. The innovative Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System (LA-RICS) was constructed to vastly improve radio and broadband communication for police, firefighters, paramedics and other emergency responders within 88 cities and incorporated areas of Los Angeles County. These agencies were previously supported by aging radio networks, resulting in communications delays that hindered productivity, delayed response times, and put lives at risk in emergency situations.
The Public Safety Broadband System, dedicated for use by emergency responders only, is one of two systems that will replace the outdated communications systems in LA County. The network totals 78 sites, and consists of 63 fixed towers and 15 Cell on Wheels (COW) units that use LTE technology. The completed system will allow public safety agencies to send and receive large amounts of data, enabling these agencies to operate more efficiently, saving time and lives. This deployment marks the fourth Public Safety LTE project to be completed in the U.S under the new FirstNet guidelines.
Under this contract, Commdex was responsible for an array of services, including the overall management of the Site Development/Construction and A&E efforts for the project. Further, when coverage loss was identified, Commdex managed the effort to develop the COW solution from the design phase through manufacturing and deployment. The project duration was a strict 18 month time frame, and the network was completed ahead of the government-mandated deadline this past November, and is currently undergoing final testing.
According to Commdex President, Prince Niyyar, “We are excited to partner with Motorola Solutions to support the build-out of LA-RICS Public Safety Broadband System. The completion of this network ensures that emergency first responders can better communicate not only during huge disasters, but during routine operations, crimes and emergencies. We are proud to support a deployment that will offer these agencies the opportunity to communicate, respond and coordinate with ease, allowing them to safeguard the well-being of the communities they serve.”
