Commdex Secures 74 Mile Fiber Optic Network Buildout Contract in Texas
Atlanta, GA, November 2024 – Commdex, a trusted provider of mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure, has been selected by the City of Irving, Texas to expand and maintain the fiber optic network. The award, reaffirms Commdex’s position as Irving’s fiber network partner of choice—a distinction earned during flawless performance on the construction of the City’s original 27.5-mile fiber ring. That network today forms the high-speed communications backbone underpinning Irving’s public safety operations and municipal services.
The centerpiece of the new award is a citywide fiber expansion spanning approximately 74 miles that will connect more than 70 City facilities—spanning fire stations, recreation centers, pump stations, libraries, and public safety command sites—through a new high-capacity network of 288-strand backbone and 24-strand lateral fiber routes. Commdex’s engineers developed an optimized routing plan that leverages existing conduit infrastructure wherever possible, delivering maximum connectivity at the lowest cost to Irving taxpayers. Every mile of new fiber will be backed by PE-stamped route engineering, directional boring, and rigorous end-to-end OTDR testing to ensure performance that meets the demands of public safety operations for decades ahead.
Alongside the expansion, Commdex will be the network’s dedicated maintenance provider—delivering emergency restoration, outside plant locate services, and proactive network repair. Commdex will maintain dedicated local crews capable of mobilizing on-site within two hours of any emergency call, protecting the continuous availability of the communications systems that Irving’s first responders depend on every day.
