Commdex Transitions into Phase II of Statewide Communications Project in Tennesse

Norcross, GA, May 8th, 2013 – Commdex, a leading wireless systems integration and engineering firm, has transitioned into Phase II of its project to build a statewide microwave network for the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP). This state-of-the-art network will improve communications, efficiency, and emergency readiness of public safety agencies in Tennessee and with agencies in surrounding states.

The statewide microwave network deployment is broken into two phases and will enable broader communication access from Memphis to the Tri-Cities, as well as disparate locations throughout Tennessee. This microwave network will serve as the backbone to the statewide, interoperable communications system and is vital for stronger, more secure and better communications in both daily operations and emergency situations involving THP.

In Phase II, Commdex will integrate the network designed in Phase I for the Chattanooga District with the Nashville, Cookeville, Jackson, Lawrence and Shelby districts, including rural parts of the state that previously lacked effective coverage. Commdex’s final microwave solution, which supports a throughput of 50 megabits per second, is built to meet both current and future capacity and growth requirements. The total network, which consists of 73 total paths across the state of Tennessee, will support THP’s main objectives, which are to enhance coverage and improve system usability to ensure the safety of patrol officers and the communities that they serve.

Upon completion, the new system will solve communications issues that have plagued Tennessee for many years. “The lack of an adequate and reliable communication system has been an issue for our agency for decades,” THP Colonel Tracy Trott said. “We were unable to share vital voice or data information via radio with our neighboring jurisdictions in daily operations or emergency response situations. The new system will enhance the ability of troopers to perform critical duties across the state.”

The final phase of the State of Tennessee Highway Patrol project is expected to be completed by August 2014.
