Commdex named Silver Award Recipient of Inaugural Safe Inside Project of the Year Awards
Atlanta, GA – November 15, 2021 – Commdex is thrilled to announce we have been selected by the Safer Buildings Coalition (SBC) as a Silver Award recipient at their inaugural Safe Inside Annual Members Awards for Project of the Year. The SBC is the only trade association purpose-built to lead national policy and education for in-building wireless services.
Commdex performed the design, installation, and configuration of an in-building communications system for the new Uranium Enrichment Facility (UEF) at the URENCO USA Facility located in Eunice, NM. Tasked with providing coverage for four multi-story buildings covering over 1.5 million square feet, the system consisted of a UHF Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to provide coverage in the specified areas of the complex.
A traditional Distributed Antenna System (DAS) utilizing a passive network comprised of coax cable would not be an option due to the strict Critical Infrastructure security requirements. Commdex thus proposed an innovative solution utilizing a fiber distributed system whereby fiber Remote Optical Units (ROUs) would be located immediately adjacent to RF antennas throughout the facility for propagation of the signal, thereby significantly minimizing security risks. Commdex’s innovative approach to implementing a DAS system to meet the data security and integrity requirements has provided a secure model for implementing DAS systems in similar mission-critical structures.
Prince Niyyar, Commdex President, said, “The recognition from the SBC further exemplifies Commdex’s commitment to being on the cutting edge of in-building public safety wireless solutions. The increase in cyber-attacks has necessitated increasingly stricter information security rules. Our approach will allow wireless implementations for the critical infrastructure to meet these stringent security requirements.”
The Safe Inside Awards were created to recognize outstanding initiative in the in-building public safety communications market. Categories included the Safe Inside Product of the Year and Safe Inside Project of the Year. This program spotlights projects for their impact, quality of workmanship, innovation, and contribution to reducing noise and interference, as well as providing SBC’s audience with information about the top new products in their fields. Submitted products and projects were required to specifically pertain to the in-building public safety market and demonstrate an innovation that furthers the mission of improving in-building public safety.
“Much deserved congratulations to our Safe Inside Award winners. In the mission to improve in-building public safety communications, the efforts of those across our industry are what drives impactful change. It’s our pleasure as an industry leader to be able to recognize the most impactful and successful initiatives,” said Safer Buildings Coalition Executive Director, Chief Alan Perdue.
