Commdex Tabbed By NPS For Great Smoky Mountains Radio System Upgrade
February 11, 2022 – Smyrna, GA – The National Park Service (NPS) has tabbed Commdex to lead the upgrade of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GRSM) radio system under the DOI FieldCom Contract.
Commdex will provide a turnkey solution comprised of two P25 VHF Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems linked with a 4GHz, 20 MHz wide channel, IP based microwave system, while utilizing the Park’s existing nine radio sites. Once the upgraded system is operational and all users are trained, Commdex will then decommission and remove the obsolete microwave and LMR system equipment to preserve the area in true GRSM “Pack in, Pack out” spirit.
The new radio system will allow GRSM to communicate directly with police, fire, and emergency personnel in neighboring jurisdictions, improving day-to-day operations and crucial during severe weather, search and rescue, and wildfire operations.
